Main Street in Carmi
Carmi has always had a Midwestern mentality. It's people believed in hard work, family, religion and community. That still makes it a vital place to raise a family or set up a business.

Southern Illinois has long been an agricultural and oil and gas dominated economy, and now throw in the coal industry and Carmi has several natural resource reserves to pull from. In educating its youth, the Carmi-White County Unit 5 School System has proven itself a leader in education services. Southeastern Illinois College now maintains a Carmi campus
that is ever expanding to meeting growing education needs.

Cost of living in Carmi, a rural community, is not high. Housing and real estate is very affordable. If people live and work here, they also have to play here and recreation opportunities abound. Carmi's park systems and Burrell's Woods, plus swimming pool, movie theater and several Carmi based restaurants and the new Super Wal-Mart make shopping and recreation available without driving miles. With Evansville, IN. or St. Louis, MO. Located within relatively short driving distances on I-64, large city entertainment is close at hand.
