| Carmi
has always had a Midwestern mentality. It's people
believed in hard work, family, religion and community.
That still makes it a vital place to raise a family
or set up a business. |
|
Southern Illinois has long been an agricultural and oil and
gas dominated economy, and now throw in the coal industry and
Carmi has several natural resource reserves to pull from. In
educating its youth, the Carmi-White County Unit 5 School System
has proven itself a leader in education services. Southeastern
Illinois College now maintains a Carmi campus
that is ever expanding to meeting growing education needs.
Cost of living in Carmi, a rural community, is not high. Housing
and real estate is very affordable. If people live and work
here, they also have to play here and recreation opportunities
abound. Carmi's park systems and Burrell's Woods, plus swimming
pool, movie theater and several Carmi based restaurants and
the new Super Wal-Mart make shopping and recreation available
without driving miles. With Evansville, IN. or St. Louis, MO.
Located within relatively short driving distances on I-64, large
city entertainment is close at hand.
