Carmi, Ill.
has a variety of recreational areas available to those in the
community or those visiting the area. Most of these sites are
free of charge and are family-oriented and located at either
Eckerle or Bradshaw-Jaycee parks. Most are handicap-accessible.
There is a public swimming pool at Eckerle Park. Tennis courts
abound, with two at Eckerle Park and five at Bradshaw Park.
Eckerle Park boasts a high-quality baseball diamond used by
the high school and American Legion teams in season. At Bradshaw
Park are seven diamonds in constant use during the warm-weather
months for softball and baseball at several levels for players
from adult age to toddlers.
Both parks also have recreation areas with slides, swings, teeter-totters,
jungle gyms and other equipment.
City-owned Burrell's Woods offers camping sites with both full-service
or primitive tent camping. There are bath and restroom facilities
at the camping area, along with shelters for large and small
gatherings, a fishing pond and nature trail. This area is patrolled
nightly by the local police department. Sites available on a
first come first serve basis.
For the golfers, the nine-hole Carmi Country Club (382-5011)
is a private course, but membership is not required to play. |
